________________________________________________________________________________ Welcome to the Othello Neighborhood Assocation (ONA). click here to read about ONA's most recent topics of interest.

We are a neighborhood group located in SE Seattle (Rainier Valley). ONA focuses on issues that impact our neighborhood's quality of life, whether that be public safety, transportation, zoning, development or other matters. We are also the steward group of the MLK@Holly neighborhood plan and for most of 2009 will be assisting in the planning efforts between the City of Seattle and civilian stakeholders.

We hope you will come to ONA meetings in the future and find opportunity to learn more about your neighborhood and connect with the diverse people, businesses and activities offered here.

Please check back here to obtain the most currently available ONA meeting agenda, blogging by ONA's executive council, photo galleries of the on-going changes in the neighborhood, and a map directory pointing out Othello's business district and neighborhood amenities (some features coming soon!).

2009 Neighborhood Plan Updating
Othello Neighborhood is #1! Number one to be updated that is. According to the City of Seattle, Othello is one of 3 neighborhoods to be updated starting this Fall ('08).

Neighborhood plans were completed between 1995 and 2000 to manage growth in the neighborhoods and to identify projects and ideas for later implementation. Neighborhood plans are the springboards for bringing libraries, parks, improving transportation, sidewalks and other community amenities to reality. Resident input is key to consensual advocacy for appropriate scale, zoning, design guidelines, priorities, policies and ideas for our neighborhood. Time for input will be made available to residents through outreach in multiple languages and be held in community forums for multiple times throughout the year.

The newly created Neighborhood Planning Advisory Committee will advise the City on how the plans are to be updated.

At this time, the preliminary schedule for Neighborhood Plan Updating is as follows:

  • Before End of Year '08:  Likely city sponsored kick-off
  • Early Winter '09:  Collect baseline data, synthesize existing planning direction, frame objectives
    • Spring '09:  Develop and consider recommendations
    • Summer '09: Establish priorities, synthesize, add detail
    • Fall '09:  Finalize plans
